As a middle school kid I began wrestling.
I didn't like it. I didn't like being in front of a crowd and having to win or loose with everyone watching me. I didn't like it because I was on overweight child with self image problems.
Early in high school I found a "reason why"
wrestling meant something to me. It gave me great focus and an almost unachievable goal to shoot for. At night I dreamed of being a stand out wrestler and being in the Washington Post for it.
By senior year I some how had gone from being about the worst wrestler on the team to being one of the best and did achieve the goal of being a standout in my area, but . . .
At the end of the year being ranked number two in my state I had the opportunity to wrestler the number one ranker wrestler, someone I had lost to previously. I knew I had worked harder than this guy since our last meeting and I was a better wrestler.
We stepped onto the mat.
I took him down and let him up. Then did it again. I was up. He threw me into a headlock and put me on the mat. Second later I pinned myself.
He didn't beat me. I hit the mat and realized this was actually going to be a fight.
Something inside of me got scared and I gave in.
In college, although I did become a
nationally ranked wrestler and was named to the all conference team I didn't have the same love for the sport anymore. It became a job where in my younger years it was the most important adventure of my life.
That day I got pinned. I didn't just lose I gave up, and never regained that spark I had.
The ability was their, but not the will I was scared of giving it all I had only to let myself down again.
To this day I look back on that day vividly as one of the worst days of my life. I made the choice to loose and lost a lot more than just a match. What could have been?
I made a vow to never give in again when I found my next calling.
That same spark ignited in me when I found internet network marketing. Not only did I have the joy of the adventure and a new skill to master, but I had the experience of giving in to drive me past ever letting it happen again.
To this day, when things are tough I remember the day I gave up and fight with all I have to never let that day repeat itself. I succeed now because I failed at something that I held dear and close to my heart.
Maybe it had to happen for me to write you this email now. Who knows? But at this point I'm glad it did. It still hurts to think of that day, not because of the lose, but because I know I lost because I didn't fight and NOT because he was better.
If you've had an experience like this that has caused you great pain because what it revealed about you to you and you don't want it happen again, don't let that moment forever defeat you.
Hold the memory tight and fight with every ounce you have to let it be the reason you succeed now.
Allow and Receive Success,
Scott
